The Ultimate Rosewood Little Dix Bay Perk: Free Beach Drops & Snorkeling Around Virgin Gorda

One of the most amazing perks that you get while staying at Rosewood Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, are complimentary beach drops around the island. This is a great (and free!) way to explore Virgin Gorda, and it’s definitely worth checking out. They also offer complimentary daily snorkeling trips around the island, which is another great way to see other parts of the island, including The Baths!

The resort is quite flexible when it comes to booking beach drops – I would suggest that you contact the resort within two weeks of your trip to let them know the dates you’re interested in beach drops, as they do fill up. You can get dropped off anywhere from 1 hour to a full day. Rosewood will provide towels, snorkel gear, beach umbrellas, as well as water bottles, and will even provide a lunch as well if you book in advance for an extra charge. Note that the lunches are expensive (about $150) but are HUGE. They are meant for two people, but easily fed the four of us (myself, my husband, and two teenagers!). Don’t skip out on this amazing amenity – we took advantage of it as many days as we could while visiting. Here are our favorite beach drops from Rosewood LDB!

Little Dix Bay

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the most picturesque beach drop was to Valley Trunk Bay, which is very close to The Baths. Apart from a few moored catamarans nearby, you have this stunning beach virtually to yourself. The giant boulders that flank the beach make it super unique looking, and it feels very romantic and private. I really was reminded as to how it felt to be in the Seychelles, which is where we went on our honeymoon. The water gets deep pretty quickly, and on the day we were here, had a bit more waves so we weren’t super comfortable snorkeling around here. That said, the beach was really fun for the kids and it was just stunning to spend part of the day here.

Our second favorite beach drop was probably Savannah Bay beach. This is a public beach right around the corner from Little Dix Bay. Even though you can occasionally hear cars and trucks on the main road nearby, and it’s a bit more busy because of the road access, we loved Savannah Bay for the amazing snorkeling, and calm, shallow water. The water is super shallow for at least 30 feet and is nice to just lay around and chill. There is a current that will take you out pretty far while you are snorkeling, though, so just be mindful of that if you’re not a strong swimmer.

Savannah Bay

Our third and final beach drop was Mahoe Bay beach – which is a very shallow, semi-private beach which I believe you may need prior permission to get to. This beach was probably the least picturesque, though it did have some cool granite boulder formations around, but possibly had the best snorkeling. It’s also super shallow here, and the beach itself is flat and really nice. The water is extremely calm and there are no currents here to speak of. There are some timeshare and villa rentals around here so there are a few more people, but the beach is pretty huge, so there’s room for everyone.

Mahoe Bay

We also took a snorkeling trip to Long Bay on our first full day at the resort – this was a great place to get an intro to the type of marine life you can see around the island, and is a short excursion (about an hour or so total with 45 minutes of snorkeling) away from the resort so if your primary goal is relaxing, this doesn’t take too much out of your day.

Long Bay Snorkeling

I can’t end this article without saying something about our home beach – Little Dix Bay, which you can come visit even if you’re not staying here. This is an absolutely massive beach in a very calm bay with some cool giant granite boulders all around. The sand is white and beautiful, and there is some really great snorkeling right there in the bay. I saw sea turtles, sting rays, and a huge array of tropical fish. If Little Dix Bay is your home base, don’t skip out on grabbing some complimentary snorkel gear and checking out the diverse marine life all around the area!
