Visiting The Frick Collection, NYC: A Serene Art Escape on the Upper East Side

We visited The Frick Collection on a recent trip to New York City in October, 2025. Recently updated and reopened, this stunning venue is full of incredible art and the building itself is noteworthy as well.

According to the website, timed tickets are required to be purchased in advance, however when we arrived on a Friday afternoon, we were able to walk in and purchase tickets for admission on the spot. There was no line, and it seemed fine. Tickets are $30 per person, and students are at a discounted rate of $17. Children aged 10-18 are free, which is nice, and children under 10 years old are not allowed. The Frick is open every day of the week except Mondays.

For your visit, I would recommend setting aside about an hour for this relatively small gallery. There are about 20 rooms on the ground floor, which is where you will find several Vermeers, Rembrandts, and others.

Illegal photos sometimes blurry…

The second floor is much smaller, and has one tiny room of impressionist paintings. This room was jammed full of people when we were there, however I found the most impressive impressionist painting, a lovely Renoir, was in the upper hallway near the stairs, with no one near it. It’s somewhat easy to miss here, so definitely look out for it, and take some time to sit on the bench opposite to admire it.

Photos here are forbidden apart from taking pictures in the beautiful courtyard, though I managed to snag a few illegal photos anyway. There is a small gift shop on the second floor, and they do control the number of people coming in and out of here to make your shopping experience a bit more pleasant.

Overall, the Frick Collection is a lovely place to stop and hang out while on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We tacked it onto the end of a full day of art viewing at The Met, and the Neue Gallery, and it’s definitely worth a stop.
